TOP SECRET TO ACING YOUR 2021 GOALS
A new year comes with new hopes and new dreams. It is that time of the year when goals get written again. Or should we call them resolutions? What’s the difference between the two words anyway?
According to Mr. Google:
Goals are the object of a person’s ambition or effort, an aim or desired result.

Resolutions are a firm decision to do or not to do something.
Let’s just stick with goals for our purposes. Just like last year’s, I know your goals are SMART, right? They are well written and are:
But why didn’t you achieve some of your goals?
Let’s do things differently this new year… ‘Spice up’ your goal setting process. Make your goals SMARTER!
Consider measuring your progress as you take time to enjoy – take written notes of how you are progressing and do not forget to enjoy the process. Always celebrate the achievement of milestones.
Further to your routine goal-setting, take time to EVALUATE your progress periodically – every 6 months, quarterly or even weekly. Engaging in such self-assessments may at times humble, humiliate, delight and encourage you. …whatever the result, without any evaluation, you’ll never know when you get there or whether you are on track. I recommend that evaluation is done sooner than later. In this way, you will be able to take corrective action in case you are off-track before it is too late (read: get to the end of the year with nothing to show). You will know what to change in good time, whose help to seek, etc.
To motivate you to achieve your goals, find a way to REWARD yourself for milestones made. Meeting your BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals) takes effort, and often loads of sacrifice therefore achieving them requires some bit of celebration. This is the extra fuel needed to get you to the finish line.
Let your 2021 goals be SMARTER. You will thank me!
